Okay, I know I said that this past weekend was going to involve dragging out the sewing machine and working on the lining of that bag. Or maybe finishing off a quilt for my little guy that I started before we left Toronto. It should be noted that I have elaborate fantasies about how productive I can be with my crafts as the whole weekend stretches before me. Before, of course, the reality of a husband having to work at the weekend and the ferrying of a five year old to skating lessons, birthday parties and other forms of entertainment sinks in. Sigh.
Yesterday the little guy and I headed into central London on a very grey day for a little distraction. I lured him to Somerset House to see the Campaign for Wool's exhibit at Wool House by telling him that we were going to see some sheep. I had seen them when I was there on Friday with Rachel where we were demonstrating spinning (you can catch the video here). Bad mommy. The sheep that were there on Friday were not there on Sunday. Oops.
I'd wanted to see what I'd missed while I'd been spinning on Friday and with free admission it seemed like an easy win in terms of something fun to do with my little guy. In spite of the missing sheep Mr. H was pretty engaged, and snapped pics with his own camera:
While mommy snapped a few with hers (click on photos to enlarge):
Wool House is "a stunning showcase of wool for interiors, fashion and the world of artisan and craft making, highlighting the beauty and versatility of the fibre".
What Wool House really is, is a feast for the eyes. Taking over a wing of Somerset House, the exhibit demonstrates how pervasive wool is in our lives. From furniture fabrics to art to clothing textiles to the various forms and possibilities of felting. Wool House is a celebration of all things sheep.
There were also lectures and demonstrations and workshops. Since I'm back at Wool House three more times this week as a volunteer (more uninterrupted spinning time in the guise of demos!), I'm hoping I might be able to poke my head into a few.
If you're in the London area, definitely make the time to check out Wool House. The exhibit runs at Somerset House until Sunday, 24 March, 2013.
