Interesting exercise for today's Knitting and Crochet Blog Week post - we had to first think about our preferred colours for crafting and identify if there's one we like to use more than others, or a colourway that we tend towards when buying yarn, or fibre, or other supplies. Then, after writing about that colour, we had to go into our projects and stash and see if that is indeed the colour we tend towards the most often.
I have to say, I found the whole thing kind of fascinating. My immediate thought went to the bright pinks I favour when ogling stash in a shop, then the comment that someone made on a project of mine once that they always see me knitting with red. If it's something for myself, sure, but I also knit a lot of things for others and those won't necessarily be personal favourites.
And in terms of what colour I favour when stash enhancing, that varies too. I've often said that I tend to cycle through phases, which could be even be a visceral, emotional or environmental response to what is going on around me. It's been a very dreary winter here - quite damp and cold. Doesn't it stand to reason then that I've been attracted to various subtle shades of grey and in warm, bulky fibres and textures? Now that we've had three solid days of sunshine with temperatures in the double digits I'm obsessed with bright, almost neon, chartreuse green (and looking at my stash I think a lively, fresh green is a theme with me in the spring months - I don't necessarily gravitate towards it the rest of the time).
So just what's in my stash then? Well I wasn't wrong about reds, deep pinks, purples and even coral and even some orange having a dominant spot. I was however, surprised by the amount of blues in there, and in varying shades too. And there's even a fair bit of neutrals!
I think I'm definitely an "equal opportunist" when it comes to colour (kind of like I'm a Bee and an equal opportunist when it comes to multiple projects!), and often before attending a knitting or stitching show, I'll go through projects and see if there's anything I should be on the lookout for in particular. Even if I don't buy anything, there will definitely be specific colours that I gravitate towards.
Funnily enough, this weekend is Wonderwool in the lovely Welsh town of Builth Wells. I'll have to report back and let you know what colour dominates my browsing in the marketplace, and of course if any browsing turns to buying... ;)
