La fête des mères

Things are almost back to normal around here in this weird, in-between week. Mr. H was on a mini half-term here the last two days following the bank holiday but returned to school today. He will be at school tomorrow as well while the rest of England continues with their half term until next Monday. Not sure if this is because he gets off school earlier than the rest of the country or perhaps because he normally has a two week half-term when everyone else has only one week? Whatever the case, it's certainly been very nice to have extra time with my wee man!

My present from Mr. H in honour of Mother's Day in France!

My present from Mr. H in honour of Mother's Day in France!

On Sunday we celebrated our third Mother's Day in the UK. March saw the first other's Day with the UK version. Then May was the Canadian/US version. Since Mr. H goes to a French school and this past Sunday was Mother's Day in France - these very special treats came home with him from school last Friday! (We did have to tell him on Saturday morning that it wasn't Sunday yet when he tried to get me to open the present!)

Too pretty to cook with but plenty of colour to brighten up the kitchen!

The teacher also sent an email home on Friday telling us to have the kids recite the poésie they learned that accompanied the gift:

Simplement

J'ai cherché dans les poèmes
Comment dire je t'aime
J'ai trouvé des mots savants
Bien trop longs pour mes cinq ans.

Alors, j'ai cherché ailleurs
Et j'ai trouvé dans mon coeur
Les mots que tu m'as appris
Quand j'étais encore petit

Maman, je t'aime, grand comme ça !
Je te dis avec mes bras.

Mr. H was brilliant. I wish I'd thought to get it on video but my heart was too busy exploding from happiness and pride at my little guy.
