Wrap-up: The Great London Yarn Crawl

Thanks for your patience dear blog readers! The Great London Yarn Crawl happened last Saturday and while Rachel was on the ball enough to get up a blog post, I've been taking a little more time on re-entry back to my "regularly scheduled programme".

On the day, Rach and I were "floaters" and "on-call" for the various GLYC groups if they needed us to help sort out missing yarn crawlers or route snafus (damn roadworks!). We also used it as an opportunity to visit various shops and check in with the shop owners to make sure all was going well with the day too from their point of view.

I started the day at Sharp Works where I forgot to take pictures but did stumble across some fun boots in Brixton that I'm going to have to go back for:

Aren't these clear boots fab for showing off handknit socks?! And only £20 - bargain!

After that I mosey-ed over to West Hampstead where I caught up with the Blue group doing some spinning in the pub at lunch:

It was World Wide Spin in Public Day and the Blue group came prepared with spindles and fibre!

After lunch I saw the group back to The Village Haberdashery and checked things out there.

So much colour on display at The Village Haberdashery!

Unfortunately I had my own travel snafu with getting over to Loop so had to make up some lost time but I ended up dithering over finding the perfect yarn for my own project!

I was so focused I didn't even make it up to the second floor in Loop! That has to be a first even for me!

One of our volunteers, Linda, wasn't feeling well so we headed down the tube together to the after party while she helped Rach get a few things sorted and I visited the last stop on my list, I Knit

Ran into the Blue group again at I Knit who were taking a wee knit and crochet break before heading to the pub for the after party.

And then it was off to the Mulberry Bush pub for our rockin' after party and amazing door prizes from our sponsors to give away!

Next year, we're going to need a bigger pub...

I don't think the day of the GLYC could have gone any better if we'd tried, and Rachel and I are both extremely proud of what we achieved with our funny little idea from almost a year ago. We're also very humbled by the response to the event and are pleased that so many people not only put their trust in us for this event, but that they also had such a good time.

There's still a bit of wrap up to do this week: thank yous and accounting, making the donation to Refuge and also collecting feedback to help us plan next year(!). But for now, that's where we're at. Oh, and maybe figuring out what I'm going to do with my own GLYC acquisitions!

No one ever said the organisers couldn't enhance their own stash on the day too, right?!
