Even though the beginning of the school year in September always feels like more of a "new year" for me, I DO appreciate the check-in point that the actual new year brings.
It's nice too, to take a few days and reflect on progress, or lack thereof, and learn if the goals one has set have not been challenging enough, or perhaps TOO challenging. Looking back at my plans for 2013, I've definitely fallen short of the mark.
I didn't knit 10,000 yards as was my goal, but I knit just under 7,000. No easy task but also less than my previous 8,900 yards in 2012. I know I can do better.
Projects were smaller, but I completed 27 of them, including 3 UFOs/WIPs - the knitting bag, Mr. H's dinosaur sweater, and of course the Sleeping Monkeys baby blanket.
There was no spinning of a sweaters worth of yarn, let alone knitting of the sweater, but I did get some spinning in, and I even managed to knit with it - which is progress after a fashion!
Plans and projects were adjusted and while none of the larger, epic projects I had planned really came to fruition, I did manage to finish another sweater for myself, and one for Mr. H, so I'm pretty happy about that (actually, I'm just happy Mr. H's will fit for a while! Phew!).
Another goal was to add less to my stash than in 2012, and while visiting yarn shows across the country seems to have been a bit of an "occupational hazard", 10,000 yards LESS came into my stash than the previous year. I'll take it!
I also committed to blogging more, and becoming more involved in the London knitting community and I'm happy that these have been my two most successful goals achieved in 2013. This is probably the most present I've ever been with this blog, and I've appreciated being able to share my WIPs and FOs with you, and loved reading and responding to your comments - please keep them coming!
As for the London knitting scene - Rachel and I launched Yarn in the City: The Great London Yarn Crawl and met tons of knitters from around London and beyond. The GLYC inadvertently became my big, epic project! But we had a great time, and are looking forward to bringing it back again in 2014.
There are good things planned for 2014 and I want to kick things up a notch. I'm still taking the time to figure out what those are and will share them with you as I sort them out for myself.
In the meantime, a very Happy New Year to you all, with all my very best wishes for your health and happiness in 2014!
