In years past I've debated having a theme or a word around which to focus my year and my writing. Do you do this? I'm interested in knowing how it has worked out for you or if it's one of those things that falls by the wayside after a couple of months...
Over the holidays as Christmas gifts from my husband and so were unwrapped a theme of wellness and self-care began to emerge. There was a gift voucher for a spa visit, another for a skincare/beauty store, make up brushes and even an essential oils aromatherapy room diffuser. It was embarrassing to ask the question (of them, and of myself): had I really been that stressed out? Was there something about my behaviour or attitude or actions that made them really think that all this personal pampering was necessary?
Apparently the answer was yes - further evidenced by how at ease and relaxed I felt using the aromatherapy room diffuser (so much so that I've taken to moving it with me from room to room). Luckily my guys enjoy the smell of bergamot and citrus and the other uplifting scents that I've found. Harrison is particularly taken with mango.
The end of 2017 was consumed with the application for our Indefinite Leave to Remain and ended up being the most arduous step in the process so far. With the application no longer hanging over our heads (our ILR was granted earlier this month - hooray!) and taking a cue from my guys, I'm determined that 2018 will be all about finding comfort and joy again. Making things that spark happiness and discovering new places.
One of the things that make me happy is writing and I want to get back to a regular posting schedule. Over the time I've been away from the blog I've been doing a lot of writing for other people: newsletters, blog posts, marketing strategies, PR, and so on. So many times I'd think of something I wanted to write about here but then be too busy or too tired from work with my clients to do so. In other cases, I'd use my idea for client writing instead.
So this year, I'm keeping my eye on the prize. Staying focused and sharing my thoughts and my makes and my creative life around the idea of things that bring me comfort and joy. I hope you'll pop back periodically to see what I get up to, and maybe join me on your own journey of comfort and joy this year.
