Strength in a small package

This piece was one of my first finishes of 2007. There haven't been a lot yet, but I'm trying to make them "quality" ones with the finishing that I have been doing. The chart is from the "Be Attitude" series by Shephard's Bush and says Be Strong (for those of you who can't make it out). The stitching was done on an 11 count, super soft, hand-dyed aida/burlap kind of a fabric that I was surprised by when it arrived. It ended up being quite nice to stitch on as long as I minded my tension and didn't pull the colours to tight. The threads were a mix of GAST, WDW and Crescent Colors. There are also tiny, handmade button embellishments from Just Another Button Company. It's one of the first times I've embellished with tiny buttons like that but they were called for in the chart and I think they really ad a little something extra to the piece.

I'm going to give the pillow to my boss, who was a friend and mentor before she became my boss at the office. I started stitching it for her last year after her diagnosis with sarcoidosis - a fairly rare, auto-immune respiratory disease. She has been working very hard to manage her disease and stay on top of it, and I thought this pillow could be a focus point when she is meditating or doing yoga - a silent encouragement to keep going, if you will. Tomorrow is her birthday, so I dug out the sewing machine to do the finishing tonight. I hope she likes it.

Anyway, now it's too late for me to report on anything else, so I'm off to bed. If I'm not working too hard this weekend (it looks like I'll have to go into the office at some point), I'll see about making some additional posts.
